Memaw’s House-Purple Heart

This one didn’t go to a customer. It stayed home.

My wife chose “Memaw” as the name our grandchildren would call her — and when we decided to cut our first piece in purpleheart, there was never really a question about what it was going to say. First time working with the species, finished with lacquer, and the color that came out of that wood stopped us both in our tracks. Purpleheart doesn’t look like something that came out of a tree. It looks like something that was made to hang on a wall and stay there.

It’s still in the house. It’s not for sale.

That’s what purpleheart does to people — and that’s why we keep running it for customers who want something that makes the whole room stop and ask questions. The color isn’t a stain. It isn’t a dye. It’s just what the wood looks like when you treat it right.

Custom name and text signs in purpleheart are available as commissions. But this one belongs to Memaw.
